Wang Sistas

Wang Sistas

Ever since Wang Sistas opened their little drive-thru eatery, it’s been on my radar, and I finally got in.

It’s a quaint little building on the corner of Oak Park Blvd. and Warren Ave. The tight drive-thru path leads you around the back to a standing menu. The Bayou Burger or the Ms. Crispy Fish sandwich might lure most diners in, but I’d come for an eight-piece wing order and fries with cheese sauce and jalapeños. And it did not disappoint in the least.

While I looked at the various wing flavors, from honey barbecue to traditional buffalo to crawfish boil and even waffle-flavored, the garlic parmesan had all my interest in this first round.

In only a few short minutes, I was handed a container in a plastic bag with a smile and a thank you. I felt the weight as I took the bag, and I knew they were not skimping on the portions.

I made it all of a half a block before the aroma of garlic and my hunger had me pulling over to sample all of the goodness.

The creamy parmesan sauce, garlic and herbs coated the lightly breaded, crunchy wings in pure flavor. The hot, crispy fries didn’t make it past my little parking spot. Once I began dredging the fries through that melted cheese, I didn’t have the willpower to stop until they were depleted. All of this I got for $15. And I did manage to save a couple of wings to share with my wife when she got home.

These wings aren’t as easy to get as you might think. They are open from 11 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday, unless they sell out early and close the window for the day. If you get there late, you might find yourself leaving empty-handed, as I’ve done so often. Get in early, and I recommend calling your order in before arriving to minimize wait time and the chances of seeing a closed sign in the window.
