A GLORIOUS MOMENT

A GLORIOUS MOMENT

It was nice to be one of many Cowboy fans to make the trek to legendary Tiger Stadium for the football season opener. Although Mother Nature absolutely would not cooperate, and the game was eventually cancelled, it was a sight to behold.

The afternoon game day festivities were awesome, with plenty of beaucoup Cajun food and loud music. Excitement was in the hot, humid air, as die-hard fans from both schools mingled and got their game faces on.

The Tiger fans played the part of great hosts and have partying down to a science. A few even wished us good luck! It was a spectacle very typical of Louisiana football fun.

Some of the karaoke performances and in-sync line dancing in the tailgate section made the trip all worthwhile.  This was Cajun hospitality at its best.

Although the game lasted only four minutes, the good folks made the best out of a bad situation. Both teams’ programs are first class, and players and fans alike deserve a future do-over.  Thanks to Tiger Nation for keeping it in-state, and good luck back at you.

It started out as the fishing trip from hell! Andrew Benoit and his grandpa Robert Sonnier launched their boat for a fun fishing trip on the beautiful Calcasieu River. Working the banks near Watermelon Bay, Andrew was anxious to see his 80-year-old fishing mentor have some good luck.

The heat was brutal and the bite was non-existent. The fish were turned off. And to add insult to injury, very soon the trolling motor sputtered and then totally crapped out.

Not to be deterred, Andrew grabbed a paddle and fished old school style. He worked up a sweat as Grandpa worked the bank over like a pro.

Several hours later, and with nary a fish in the boat, both anglers agreed to surrender and try again another day.

Nearing his last cast of the day, Andrew suddenly set the hook hard. This trip was about to be turned around.

After a tremendous fight only a river bass can produce, he boated a five and a half pound river bass straight from heaven. It was a glorious moment, as grandson and old man high-fived and hugged.

It was their only fish of the day, but both were grateful just to be there together. This is what fishing is all about. All it takes is one!

A cool front approaches and couldn’t be timed any better after another typically hot, humid Louisiana summer. Hunting seasons are approaching, and anticipation, as always, is through the roof. If you’re a die-hard fisherman, it’s a productive time to be on the water, as the fish become more active with cooler weather.

In general, it’s a happening time of the year. Summer is on its way out, and you have your choice of football, hunting or fishing. Pick one and go for it — or, as with most Cajuns, be ready to go with the flow. Pick your poison or mix and match. It’s sweet to live in a place where you can do all these things.

The forecast calls for lows in the 50s, signaling time to get outside and enjoy it. In the wise words of Cajun Phil — “Come on, funny feeling!”

Happy hunting and fishing and support your local Cowboys!  Aieee!!!!!
