Built on the grounds of the old Skate City, this complex holds a variety of businesses, including Coffee:30 Express, Sushi Boxx, and the highly anticipated anchor, Southlake Theater.
Little had been revealed to the public during the build of Southlake Theater. Finally, the grand opening date arrived. I and many others were finally going to experience Southlake Theater.
The interior was stunning. The gorgeous décor, the pleasantly displayed work of local artists and intricate fixtures made for a diverse visual, while the calming aroma of fresh ground coffee filled the place. A friendly staff welcomed everyone with smiles and pleasantries while filling orders and pouring drinks.
Proceeding from the coffee house through the darkened hallway leading to the theater, we heard the sound of music getting louder as we approached. Parting the heavy black felt curtain revealed an almost indescribable scene.
Every attention to detail was evident, from the design work of the tile layout to the blend of hardwoods and sound-absorbing fabrics along the wall to the precision placement of sound enhancing ceiling waves of “art.”
Taylor Trahan then took the stage to showcase the dynamic range and functionality of the theater. It replicates the acoustics of the most renowned settings, from the Bing Concert Hall to the Cathedral San Vitale and many others, while the digital backdrop displays images as crisp as if you were there yourself.
Headlining the grand opening, a truly entertaining and classy band, the Flamethrowers, entertained the crowd.
Southlake Theater is an audiophile’s dream come true, completely immersing the audience in lighting, acoustics, special effects and visuals. Several times throughout the evening I found myself in complete awe, often standing there with goosebumps. You could hold a conversation with the person next to you without yelling, while basking in the power from the speakers and all their energy. The Porché design team left nothing on the table when creating this masterpiece.
There is so much to Southlake Theater that will move you. With its diverse capabilities, accessibility to the community, school plays, the promotion of culture, talent and entertainment, there are no limits.
So, the next time you are sitting in Coffee:30 Express and you happen to wonder where that door leads to, know that it will take you to one of the most amazing theaters you’ll ever have the pleasure of experiencing.
