God Grant Me

God Grant Me

…the ability to look at a jumble of things that matter and know which matters the most.

…the common sense to appreciate the common.

…the do-it to do good when no one is looking…and the rise-to-it to be good when everybody is looking.

…the ability to know the difference between luck and grace.

…the clarity to see how wrong I was back when I was so sure of how right I was… and the memory of how often that has happened.

Please Grant Me

…faith, that I am not as small as I feel, and faith, that You are not as far away as my smallness tells me You are.

…bigness, that I can absorb a wrong without making it worse, by trying to force it to be made right, in my timing.

…the eyes to see the wealth of health, the health in peace, and the peace in patience.

While You’re At It

…help me know that confidence is always one straw on the camel’s back away from turning into pride, but humility makes me right sized for fellow man and right hearted for the Maker of Man.

…don’t let me disrespect the perch I’ve just caught because someone is trying to sell me that I’m no fisherman unless I land a whale.

…help me to pick my battles wisely.  There’s a place for having standards, but letting go and letting God looks awful smart after you’ve tried ready-fire-aim and made things worse.

…let me appreciate the PhD of nature.  No lectures, no tests, it teaches by being.

…help me be a good American.  I want to pull my weight, earn my way, and not make someone else clean up after me.

…help me to quit looking for peace in all the wrong places.  If it costs money, it’s probably just the passing kind.

…let me not forget old heart wounds.  That it seems so long ago, and so healed over should make me brave for the rest of my life.  We are indeed, fearfully and wonderfully made.
