WORTH MAKING NOTE OF

Starting on Sept. 20, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston will show a retrospective of the works of Mark Rothko that are housed in the National Gallery of Art. It’s the first time this comprehensive retrospective has been shown since 1998. And the Houston gallery will be the only gallery in the U.S. that will show it this time around.

Mark Rothko: A Retrospective will include 60 paintings by the artist many consider the greatest of the modern era. Works will range from early efforts to paintings completed near the end of Rothko’s life.

The exhibit will run through Jan. 24 of next year.

On The Campaign Trail

— July 13: At a rally in Monticello, Iowa, Bobby Jindal says he is “running without permission from headquarters.”

“Headquarters?” some of you are wondering. “What ‘headquarters’ is he talking about?” I’ll tell you. He’s talking about the official organization named The Headquarters of All Headquarters, which is located at the intersection of Main and State in Wagon Rut. And who runs that Headquarters of All Headquarters? Me. That’s right. I am the official Head of The Headquarters.

And Jindal is exactly right when he says he never asked my permission. I don’t mind admitting I’m a little steamed.

July 14: In one of her many emails on the Iowa campaign, Jindal spokeswoman Shannon Dirman writes — in a rare moment of levity — “And the Governor loved this guy’s hat.” Jindal’s Tweet about the hat read: “I love the hat!”

— July 14: Several media sources report that Jindal had raised $700,000 for his campaign. Within minutes, the reliable Shannon Dirmann sent out an email proclaiming: “Bobby Jindal backed by more than $9 million.”

The source provided for the number was the Washington Examiner. It’s a source we all trust because, of course, we all read it.

— July 17: From the campaign — “If you missed it yesterday, the Des Moines Register reported that Gov. Jindal launched a 99-county tour of Iowa.” “If you missed it” indeed! I for one resent the implication that I’m so out of touch that I don’t read the Des Moines Register daily.

— July 17: Jindal gets more standing ovations than any other Republican candidate at the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa. From a July 20 Jindal email: ” … the campaign is releasing a new video entitled ‘I never knew you were that good’ that mashes up the multiple standing ovations the governor received.” And on the same day: “Video of the day: @SupriyaJindal Twitter limits video to 30 seconds. This ovation for @BobbyJindal went on for longer.”

— July 20: Email from Jindal campaign carries this headline: “JINDAL: OBAMA ONLY PERSON IN FREE WORLD WHO WON’T NAME RADICAL ISLAM.” What is it that Jindal wants to name “Radical Islam”? And how does Jindal know that Obama is the only one among the hundreds of millions in the free world who won’t name it that? Somebody put in a lot of research on this one.

— July 23: Communications director Kyle Plotkin suggests that Jindal supporters check out “fun charts” that depict the candidate’s latest data.

Yes, We Paid For It

Hey, Donald Trump is a rich guy, isn’t he? At least, he’s always saying he’s rich.

Well, if he’s so rich, why are we Louisiana taxpayers paying for his beauty pageant?

What? Surely it’s not possible that anyone in Louisiana could be spending a single dime on Donald Trump’s Miss USA Pageant.

Don’t tell that to the Baton Rouge Advocate. That newspaper just reported that Baton Rouge taxpayers paid $540,000 as part of the cost of having Trump’s pageant broadcast from Baton Rouge.

Oh, well. The guy didn’t get to be rich by paying for every little thing himself.

DiCaprio Searches For Oscar In N.O.

Once again, Leonardo DiCaprio has come to New Orleans to make a film that he must hope will finally bring him that elusive Oscar.

In his latest trip to the Crescent City, DiCaprio worked for director Alejandro G. Inarritu, who just took home a bag-full of Oscars for his movie Birdman.

If you weren’t all that crazy about Birdman’s lengthy philosophical monologues, you may be pleased to learn that the trailer for Inarritu’s new movie — The Revenant — is short on dialogue and long on action.

In the Revenant, DiCaprio plays a fur trapper who struggles to survive in the harsh 19th century wilderness. There’s also a strong revenge plotline.

Cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki shot the entire movie in natural light.

If you want to see the trailer for The Revenant, I’m sure it’s on YouTube right now. You’ll be able to see the entire film in your local theater on Christmas Day.

SCAMS! SOCIAL STDS! KNOWN STRIPPERS!

I am performing a public service. For the sake of your own safety, please stop whatever you’re doing and examine the following list of names closely:

— Mia Isabella

— Michael Levelle Davis, Jr.

— Michelle Levelle Davis

— Michele Levelle Davis

— Mia Michelle.

If you know anyone who has any of these names, please be careful. I heard it from an extremely reliable source that all these people — in spite of their different names — are just one person. And this person is “an extortionist and prostitute.”

How do I know this is true? I got it in an email!

Did my unknown email correspondent provide any specifics about what Mia Isabella has done? Absolutely! I’ll reveal to you the shocking misdeeds as they were reported word by word to me by my highly respected correspondent. Like anyone who has something really, really important to say, my source uses LOTS AND LOTS OF CAPITAL LETTERS AND EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!!!!!!!!!

Isabella, says my source:

— “DOES NOT stand for equality.”

— ” … she has scammed and humiliated the LGBT community with her disgusting and arrogant actions.”

” … she has now resorted to EXTORTION of rappers after failed attempts to shake down Charlie Sheen.”

“She … has conspired with … known stripper and prostitute Capri Anderson in an attempt to take down TYGA and the Kardashians … “

” [She has worked] on … known celeb shake-down fraudulent publicist, Gina Rodriguez.” (And, as we all know, “When the heat turns on, Gina runs… “)

“She is a rat and a social STD … “

” … she is BUSTED and the FBI and local police are involved.”

” … she is … ‘trying’ [meaning, I guess, that she’s not really trying] to delete her social media footprint.”

What, then, must be done? My perfectly credible contact tells me, “Her behavior must be stopped before more people are reduced to social media road-kill!!!”

Now look … who wants to be social media road-kill? I wouldn’t want to be that even if I knew what it was.

Let’s face facts. Anyone who isn’t even capable of shaking down Charlie Sheen must be an extremely dangerous person. On the other hand, I can’t help but wonder whether someone who tried to take down the Kardashians could really be all bad.

My source is Proxy Public Relations, which operates under the auspices of Sitrick and Company in Los Angeles. CEO Michael Sitrick reportedly charges more than $700 an hour for his services. Sitrick and Company are, says Gawker, “known in the business and entertainment companies as the place to turn in the face of a potentially huge public relations disaster.”

I’d say the email I received certainly qualifies as a disaster. Somebody picked the right guy.

“It means nothing to me. I have no opinion about it and I don’t care.”
