A Prayer

A Prayer

This photo, by Cecile Domens, tells many stories, about movement, and action, about underneath and below, about going, but not yet left…

Our Father,

Who loves us

Despite our despites,

Because, because, because…

Thank You

For Your all-ness

And everything-ness.

Thank You for our lives

And another day of it.

May we respect

Our being,

Among the being,

That today is an Only

And by grace,

We participate in its Onliness.

Give us this day

The whatever we’ll need

To face the whatever we’ll face.

Thank You for the gift

Of our loved ones,

Our hearts

In different bodies,

We rest in the assurance,

That however much we love them,

You love them more.

We’re thinking of certain people

Who are walking through the valley

Of the shadow of bad shadows.

Coat them with grace

Protect them with growl.

Please be extra

For those who need

Your extra extra-ness.

We wish to start the day clean.

We ask forgiveness

For our smalls,

Mediums

And larges.

Be near

Whisper near

A hint of steer

Keep us clear.

Help us Golden Rule unto strangers

As we wish strangers

Would Golden Rule

Unto us.

Help us avoid

And evade

Our allergies,

And our enemies.

Whisper to our conscience

To respect the power

Of little deeds

Within our doing

That elevate little moments

Into day-making moments.

Help us do ole fashioned things

Like mind our business,

Hoe our rows,

Live within our means,

Guard the heart

And never speak ill.

Forward,

We go,

Into the gift of the day

That Thou hast made.

Because of Your Son,

We call You Father…

This edition of Uncle P’s Bedtime Stories is unlike all the others, of all the other years.

If Uncle P had to nominate two words, to describe the first half, of this year, it would be Seeking and Open.  For him, this is a year to respect the quiet, and listen for the Whisper.

Uncle P can be reached at eightyoneantiques@gmail.com.  All three of his books can be found at Expressions, 3100 Ryan Street, Lake Charles, and at Flock of Five, 217 E Thomas St, Sulphur.
