Pure Quality Time

There is nothing like taking a much deserved break once in a while.  Everyone needs to step off life’s treadmill occasionally and regain some perspective.

It was overdue time for an impromptu family vacation. Chris, AKA Dad, and Amanda, packed up their girls and set sail for Toledo Bend and a break from the world as we know it. Maddie, eight, and little sis Hannah, five, were ready to feel something stretch the line on their custom Snoopy rods and reels.

The white perch bite was on, and the fish were aggressive. The Caire clan teamed up for an awesome therapeutic trip, filled with beaucoup, slab white perch. A combination of artificial jigs and live shiners were the ticket to success.

Team Caire finished the week-end with a grand total of 80 white perch. For lagniappe, he caught two greasy catfish. Maddie took home honors for outstanding angler, with the crappie of the day. Little Sis was all smiles and just glad to catch a break from school.

It was a fun relaxing trip with loved ones — the kind that can do wonders to charge your batteries and soothe your soul. It was pure quality time that the girls will always remember and cherish. This trip offered it all – family, fun and fish!

Dad (head of the fish cleaning department) promised a bodacious fish fry in the very near future. Hush puppies would be optional.

Recently, there was a super get-together of McNeese friends and families. McNeese faithful who bleed the blue and gold gathered together to honor a select group of honorees. All had done more than their part in giving back to the school that had been there for them when they needed it most.

Included in this group of generous donors were Jack Hebert, Jack Lawton, Jr., Harry Hank and Allan Heisser. In attendance in the standing-room-only crowd was a who’s who of McNeese legends. Standout former Cowboy coaches included Vic Stelly, Hubert Boales and Ernie Duplichan.  President Philip Williams and A.D. Bruce Hemphill, a good old Sulphur boy, were also in attendance. The guy the field was named after, Louis Bonnette, was also present in the form. The hosts were gracious and made you feel right at home

Football Hall of Famers, linebacker Bob Fuhrer and running back Theron McClendon honored the whole group with their presence. Representing the round ballers, basketball great and Hall of Famer John Rudd was there from tip-off. Local officials included Chief of Police Don Dixon and Marshal Joey Alcede.

Allan Heisser’s legendary high school coach Jack Salter made the trip from Covington. His 30-year record speaks for itself. He wouldn’t have missed this for the world. Allan was one of his boys.

It was an awesome experience to listen to coaches Salter and Duplichan reminisce. There’s beaucoup knowledge of the game of football and how to handle young athletes between these two legends of the coaching profession.

The highlight of the night occurred when Johnny Suydam was caught trying to pickpocket Theron McClendon. With his natural cat-like quickness, old number 29 reacted before Suydam had his wallet half lifted!

This was a great group, comprising the core of McNeese nation. It’s really like family, and an honor to be included in this super team that always has the best interest of McNeese athletics at heart.

The Cowboys offer a fun and entertaining way to spend a Saturday night. The facilities are first-class, and so is the entire live show. When we score and the band cranks out “Jolie Blon,” it feels good to be there. Cowboy Stadium is a beautiful place to be!
