HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TREY

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TREY

It’s the gift that keeps on giving. If you’re fretting over a great gift for that someone special, consider this:

To score a whitetail buck worth mounting generally takes a ton of effort, patience and a good dose of luck. Jason Lejeune was very aware of a mature buck that was frequenting his stand area and determined to meet him face to face. He had passed several does and immature bucks for the slim chance of crossing paths with this mature 10 point.

Jason wisely steered clear of this stand for longer than he really wanted in order not to spook the buck from the area. After a brief respite and all the right conditions, he silently approached the stand against the wind.

As fate would have it, this was the day his patience would be justly rewarded.

He put the hammer down on his dream 10 pointer, and life was good. He was psyched and all in to mount his best buck. trey tate

His better half, Annette, knew just what to do when his shoulder mount was completed. As a diversion, she told Jason she couldn’t pick the deer up anytime soon. He fell for it hook, line and sinker, and after a tough day on the job, was kicked back in his favorite recliner. The truth be known, he was lights out, resting comfortably, and maybe even snoring lightly.

Annette strategically set the buck in Jason’s line of sight and gave him a slight tap on the foot. He focused through squinting eyes and quickly came back to life. He bolted upright suddenly — wide awake and breathing hard. His buck of a lifetime scared him nearly to death.

As soon as his brain processed it all, an unmistakable grin grew from ear-to-ear. What a surprise, and well worth his and Annette’s efforts!

It was Trey Tate’s ninth birthday and the party was on. This young up-and-coming athlete had a great time and received some cool gifts. The party was winding down, and it was time to cut the cake.

Just when the youngster didn’t think it could get any better, his dad Troy waltzed in with his pride and joy.  It was the shoulder mount eight point buck Trey scored last season. Dad and son were both glowing.

This was his best deer, easily outdistancing his previous best spike buck. This one was extra special. He and Dad were together in a deer blind in Union Parish when the buck approached. Trey kept his cool and squeezed off an accurate DOA shot.

This was a special father-son moment neither will ever forget. Trey couldn’t have picked anyone else he wanted to experience this with more and vice-versa.

His own mounted buck was icing on the cake. This bad boy was going directly into Trey’s room for him to look at when he reminisced on the awesome morning of the hunt. That was an experience of a lifetime, and made extra special because the old man was right there to witness it all. Neither will ever forget all the particulars of that great day. Both dad and son are already looking forward to next hunting season and dreaming of a better buck.

Time to gear up for spring fishing.  Life is good.

Happy fishing!
