Like the unmistakable sincerity of a grandmother’s smile…

Like waking up in a good mood…

Like A Long Life And Dying In Your Sleep

Like a sweet memory that comes to mind…

Like the bulb from momma’s yard popping out a flower, in your yard…

Like living your life in the now, but standing on layers that meant and mattered…

Like a big, fat, cooked-on-momma’s-stove cheeseburger…

Like walking across a hot parking lot, turning the key, and feeling that a/c kick on…

Like a “good” tired, the earnest, honest kind, having been about good, solid doing…

Like Vegetables From Your Own Garden

Like a clean conscience feels…

Like writing the last check, to pay something off…

Like the feel of a few paper bills in your pocket, especially if you’ve known some no-money time…

Like the feel of giving some of your bills to a stranger going through the no money time…

Like counting to 100 before buying something on impulse…

Like counting to 1000 before speaking from anger…

Like the honesty of little kids, even when they point at what you hate in the mirror…

Like the enthusiasm of a dog’s wagging tail…

Like the smell of bread baking, a chimney lit, honeysuckle and fresh mowed grass, like the air right after a summer rain…

Like pictures of how it used to be, and being grateful for the place and people…

Like pictures of how it used to be, and thinking, lawd, lawd, glad that’s behind me…

Like random accidents that seem like God’s fingers on the strings…

Like how creativity makes you feel about the first passage of Genesis…

Like neat ‘n tidy, admiring it from afar, because you’re not that way…

Like old friends where you pick right back up…

Like The First Time You Heard He Stopped Loving Her Today

Like hearing Merle singing Mama Tried on Mother’s Day…

Like found money at the bottom of a purse…

Like the hug of someone who knows why you need the hug…

Like Amazing Grace and Taps at funerals…

Like the first day that it feels like Spring…

Like forgiveness makes you feel…

Like football season in the south…

Like a recipe that calls for two sticks of butter…
