Sam’s Southern Eatery

Sam’s Southern Eatery

At work the other day, someone asked me if I’d checked out the new seafood place on Highway 14 that had opened in the old Arby’s location. I thought it an odd building choice for a seafood restaurant. But then again, I’ve seen some strange location choices in my time.

Chelsea and I decided to swing in for lunch. The look inside and out had changed a great deal. Interior changes gave the venue a different feel.

The place was filling up at 11:15 am, and people were rolling in the entire time we were there.

sams2 There seemed to be a little confusion between the two people working the cash register about the tickets being rung up; that caused a slight back-up in the order taking, which caused the line out the door to back up even further. But these are things you expect while a new restaurant is working out the bugs.

The layout for taking the orders may need to be reworked, as people getting drinks are forced to crowd the people who are waiting to place their orders. This created quite the little traffic jam, and you could tell it was frustrating to some of the guests.

I ordered the fried jumbo shrimp and the fried fish plate with a side of green beans. Chelsea got the lemon pepper wings with fries and corn.

The shrimp were very nice in size. They had a crisp batter to them. They came out like they had just left the fryer. The fish was a nice size filet that was cooked perfectly. It, too, was full of flavor and very enjoyable to eat.

I love lemon pepper wings and will usually order them if we go to a wing place. I’m glad I ordered them at Sam’s Southern Eatery. I took one bite and could see the steam rising out of the wing; this made me happy, as I knew the wings hadn’t been sitting under a heat lamp. The sides weren’t bad, but there was really nothing exciting to write about them. And that’s fine, as the people coming to get their seafood are not really too concerned about how exciting the sides are.

I enjoyed my meal and was glad I tried it. I was pleased with the fact that more new venues are finally showing up on that side of town; with the new trampoline location in the same shopping center, the new eatery is sure to stay busy. These places are new; so, when you visit, please be understanding if there are some things you feel need to be corrected.
